50 Facts That Should Change The World - Jessica Williams

A very interesting book, not directly business related (but remember - inspiration can come from all over).

I don't think any of the facts are particularly new, especially if you read the right newspapers, but the essay on each is thought provoking and enlightening. For some of the chapters the problem and solution seems obvious, however for others I struggled to work out what the issue was, most likely due to me being a compassionate capitalist (if there is such a thing). On some issues it seemed (to me) naive that we can (or should) do anything. Others shocked and horrified me.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that has.

What is interesting (perhaps most interesting for those wanting to pursue a career in commerce) was Jessica's motivation for writing the book. She clearly feels strongly about the issues raised but isn't going on a hunger strike on her own to complain, or chaining herself to machinery somewhere. She's raising the issue the best way she knows how, using her particular skills.

Everyone is in business for themselves - she has aligned her business with her ideals. A valuable lesson for all entrepreneurs.
