The Heart of Success - Rob Parsons
Very accessible, almost too easy (I read it on a short-haul flight). Or maybe, its just so good I burned through it!
Takes a long, hard look at what success means. Working out what you want out of life is hard. The hardest. This gives useful food for thought - it really makes you question whether working your guts out is the correct path for you.
No doubt there are those who've worked all their lives who would have liked to have had more time with their family. For each of those, there is probably someone who wishes they had worked harder and made more of themselves rather than living through their kids, or something. This book does preach slightly (that over-work is foolish) but that's probably for the best as no-one really needs a book reminding them the benefits of working hard. A reminder of the benefits of not doing so is more useful.
It doesn't only preach this, though. It also reminds us of the benefits of time out. An issue that is increasingly raised but few actually put into practice. Read this book and stand out from the crowd - take a more balanced view and come back stronger the next day. (Go for a run whilst you're at it.)
