Inclusive Heritage — Storytelling through a Diasporic Lens
About this Project
Inclusive Heritage is Inspirate’s strand of work that uses storytelling, creative practice and community participation to explore South Asian heritage in the UK — exploring diaspora narratives to inspire living heritage in evolving form.
We work with communities to surface stories that have been overlooked, challenge narrow representations of South Asian identity and create new cultural expressions that reflect the full range of diasporic experience. This work takes place in community centres, libraries, heritage sites and sheltered homes — reaching people of all ages and backgrounds.
Underpinning our work is a research programme we have launched with Loughborough University. The PhD is exploring Inclusive Heritage in Superdiverse Places: Redesigning inclusion in heritage content, practice, and policy in Leicestershire.
